Women’s Primary Care & Comfort-First Gynecology
Rethinking the Well-Woman Experience
For too long, routine gynecological care has been associated with cold rooms, rushed visits, and physical or emotional dread. At Empower Wellness Clinic, we do things differently.
Led by Rachel Millard, DNP, our clinic provides comprehensive women’s primary care and preventative gynecology in an unhurried, boutique sanctuary. Whether you are managing a chronic health condition, need a routine preventative screening, or are seeking confidential sexual health answers, you are always in complete control of your care.
The Empower Comfort Protocols: How We Eliminate Pain & Anxiety
We don’t just talk about trauma-informed care—we practice it down to the exact tools and medical protocols we use during your visit.
🌸 The Nella Speculum Experience
We have entirely retired the traditional, cold, mechanical metal speculums of the past. Our exams are performed exclusively using the Nella Speculum—an ultra-slim, silent, body-temperature system designed precisely to match a woman’s natural anatomy. No shocking cold metal, and no jarring plastic clicks.
🧪 Topical Lidocaine for Pain-Free Paps
If you have skipped your annual Pap smear due to past physical pain or discomfort, let us help. We offer advanced topical lidocaine numbing options directly to the cervical tissue prior to your screening to ensure your exam is completely comfortable and stress-free.
🛑 Proactive Pre-Medication for IUDs & Nexplanon
We refuse to follow the outdated clinical rulebook of telling women to simply "take an Advil before you come in" for an IUD or implant procedure. We actively utilize proactive oral pre-medications to calm the nervous system and relax the pelvic floor, paired with localized paracervical nerve blocks so you never have to just "breathe through" sharp procedural pain.
💬 You Always Hold the Remote
In our clinic, you dictate the pace of your exam. Rachel will explain every single step before it happens. If you need a break, want to adjust your positioning, or tell us to stop at any moment during a procedure, we stop instantly. Your physical and emotional autonomy is our absolute law.
Discreet, Judgment-Free STI Screenings
Your sexual health is an essential component of your overall wellness, and seeking answers should never feel shameful or intimidating.
No Exam Required: If you are visiting strictly for our $199 Essential STD Panel, you do not need to undress or get into a medical gown.
Restroom Self-Swabs: For Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing, we utilize highly accurate molecular technology that allows you to collect your sample via a quick, gentle self-swab or simple urine catch in the total privacy of our restroom.
Immediate Treatment Pipelines: If a screening comes back positive, Rachel can immediately call your therapeutic protocol or single-dose antibiotic directly into your local pharmacy so you can begin healing without delay.
FAQs
How is Empower Wellness Clinic different from a traditional doctor's office?
1
Traditional insurance-driven offices force providers to rush through 7-minute visits, leaving you feeling ignored and dismissed. At Empower Wellness, we schedule unhurried 30-to-45-minute appointments so we can actually listen to your story.
Furthermore, we merge preventative women's health with root-cause metabolic and hormone optimization, and we actively invest in your comfort by replacing outdated, painful equipment with modern alternatives like the silent, body-temperature Nella Speculum.
I experience severe anxiety or have past medical trauma. How do you handle patient safety and support?
2
Your physical and emotional safety is our absolute, non-negotiable priority. We completely understand that pelvic exams can feel vulnerable or triggering, and we cater entirely to your comfort level:
Bring Your Support System: You are always welcome and encouraged to bring a trusted friend, partner, or family member into the exam room with you.
Chaperone Available: If you are coming alone and would feel safer having a neutral third party present, we will happily provide a professional clinical chaperone at your request—just let us know at check-in.
You Hold the Remote: We talk you through every single step before it happens. If you need us to pause, adjust, or completely stop the exam for any reason, we stop instantly. No questions asked.
How often do I actually need a Pap smear?
3
We strictly follow the evidence-based U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) guidelines for cervical cancer screenings. You do not necessarily need a Pap smear every single year. The general screening roadmap includes:
Ages 21 to 29: Cervical screening (cytology alone) every 3 years.
Ages 30 to 65: Screening every 3 years with cytology alone, every 5 years with high-risk HPV testing alone, or every 5 years with co-testing (both together), depending on your specific health history.
Note: Even on years when a Pap smear isn't required, an annual well-woman primary care visit is still highly recommended to track your metabolic health, check your breasts, manage hormones, and renew prescriptions.
I am terrified of the pain associated with Pap smears and IUD insertions. Can you help me?
3
Yes, absolutely. We refuse to accept the outdated notion that women should just "endure" reproductive healthcare pain. We treat procedural discomfort proactively:
For Pap Smears, we offer advanced topical lidocaine options to numb the cervical tissue prior to sample collection.
For IUD and Nexplanon placements, we don't just tell you to take an over-the-counter pain pill. We offer prescription pre-medication options to safely ease severe anxiety, relax the pelvic floor muscles, and manage discomfort before the procedure even begins, alongside localized numbing blocks.
What happens if my Pap smear comes back abnormal or you find something complex?
4
As a Doctor of Nursing Practice-led primary care facility, Rachel Millard excels at advanced diagnostic tracking and early intervention. However, if your screenings reveal a highly complex issue, an abnormal cell structure requiring advanced diagnostics (like a colposcopy), or an advanced gynecological condition, we have an established network of elite, trusted local gynecologists and surgical specialists. We will personally coordinate your referral and pass off your records seamlessly so you are never left navigating an unexpected finding alone
